Acer Confirms Dual Boot Android Laptop
Acer Confirms Dual Boot Android Laptop
Acer has just released their plans for their new Android
Laptop and it includes a dual boot; Android with XP. The Android OS is missing some of the features which users
want. For an extra $20 the XP boot adds the additional features albeit with a speed penalty. So the user has the choice: high speed when
Android is running and full feature set but lower speed with Win XP. The risk in offering an Android only laptop
is that customers will expect the Android OS to run windows applications. Walmart dropped the Linux gPC from their
shelves because of the high return rate. Customers were unhappy when they brought their
PC's home and it wouldn't run office or other 'PC' programs..
In other news Acer CEO JT Wang also
revealed that he expects that telecom providers may be the biggest customers of
the new Android Laptops. Wang has estimated that Acer's notebook shipments in
the second half of 2009 will grow 30-40% compared to the first. http://www.AndroidLaptop.com
